General Summary
To perform skilled work in the trade of Plumber.
Required Qualifications
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Successful completion of a recognized plumber apprenticeship program or five (5) years (60 months) of full-time journey- level plumber experience.
3. Possession of current State of Illinois Plumber's License.
4. Valid State of Illinois driver's license.
5. A final candidate must complete a post-offer pre-employment physical exam. Employment is contingent on the successful result of the pre-employment physical.
Desired Qualifications
1. Knowledge sufficient in techniques and uses of tools.
2. Capable of planning work based on status of request.
3. Experience in maintenance of drainage, waste, vent, potable water supply and fixtures, etc.
4. Must have a valid state issued driver's license and be able to operate a motor vehicle.

Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:
1. Ability to lift 80 pounds.
2. Work at heights or depths of at least 30 feet or more.
3. Must be able to work underground, in ceilings and in confined spaces and be able to maneuver and carry equipment to those locations.
4. Must be able to speak clearly.
5. Visual acuity to differentiate between color-coded piping.
6. Ability to bend, crouch, kneel and reach overhead.
7. Work Environment - Usually in and out of heated and protected areas; but, occasionally exposed to heat, cold, rain, snow, etc.

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials. Extra Help:
Employees are only paid for hours worked and do not qualify for most benefits, including health
insurance and retirement, with Illinois State University. However, Extra Help employees are
eligible to participate in the University's supplemental retirement savings plans (403b).
Applicable retirement information is provided at the time of hire. There is no guarantee that
working as Extra Help will lead to or secure permanent employment.
Extra Help employees are paid prevailing rate per the trade. They may work full-time hours throughout their employment as Extra Help, however they are not to exceed 900 hours during each Extra Help appointment.
