Job Summary
Milner Library’s Scholarly Communication Unit [https://library.illinoisstate.edu/services/scholarly-communication/] supports and promotes research produced at Illinois State University and oversees the institutional repository, ISU ReD.
Essential tasks include making small, repetitive motions such as typing or operating equipment and looking at screens for prolonged periods. Attention to detail, including close reading skills and ability to follow written directions, is essential for success in this role.
The Scholarly Communication Assistant works in the Digitization Center and collaborates with Digitization Center personnel.
Job duties
• Apply metadata to files (data entry) and upload documents to the institutional repository
• Review publications by ISU authors to determine open access availability
• Scan and/or photograph documents
• Edit and process digital files
• Name and store files to a secure network according to strict conventions

Pay Rate
$15.00/hour
Required Qualifications
Must be an Illinois State University student in good academic standing.
Preferred Qualifications
-General computer literacy, including experience working with and understanding of computer directories and file management conventions
-Good oral and written communication skills
-Good time management skills
-Experience using flatbed, overhead, and/or slide scanners
-Experience using Microsoft Office and Adobe software suites, including Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, Acrobat, Bridge, and Photoshop
-Experience working in GLAMRs (galleries, libraries, archives, museums, or record centers)
-Experience working in a fast-paced, production-oriented, and security-conscious environment
- Ability to read and transcribe handwritten cursive documents
- Experience handling rare and fragile historical materials
- Photography experience, especially studio/commercial photography training
- Coursework in 19th and 20th century American history
Work Hours
The employee must be available to work 8 -15 hours per week during fall and spring semesters in shifts of 2 to 8 hours during regular business hours (Monday-Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm).
